But over fifteen years ago, I met a young girl member of my best friend's family who is now in her late 20s, a talented woman, and is a product artist she designs merchandise, etc who actually works for Disney. And she posted this on FB recently in a post about this very subject.
The Merida depicted was just one artist's painting for one line of merchandise that will be replaced in a year. Varied designs on Disney merchandise does not mean Merida has been re-imagined for all time. It was just one rather unfortunate temporary style direction. When it comes to "Disney" doing things, people rarely realize it's often just a small group of artists just getting by on their day-to-day job.
