Authorities in Lehigh County charged a New York man with promoting prostitution after they allege he drove a woman to an Allentown hotel and rented her a room, where she could sell her services. Carmen G. Authorities responded to a classified ad on the website backpage. Investigators texted the phone number on the posting and arranged a meeting at the hotel at Moravian Ave.
When an officer arrived, Garcia was seen leaving the hotel and getting into a Mini Cooper. A woman later identified as Ramos-Cruz answered the door wearing a "short dress" sans undergarments, according to records. She told police that Garcia paid for the room and drove her to Allentown so she could work as a prostitute in exchange for a percentage of her earnings. Garcia allegedly confirmed what Ramos-Cruz told police and said he frequently uses backpage.
When police apprehended Ramos-Cruz, she allegedly admitted to also having cocaine in the nightstand. Ramos-Cruz was released ahead of a scheduled Oct. The year-old Garcia, meanwhile, remains in Lehigh County Jail after failing to post bail.
