The place stank of cigarette smoke, there are brothels right outside and I think the brothel patrons stay at the hotel because you can hear them! As someone who frequently stays at cheaper hotels, I suggest you spend a few extra dollars for a nicer hotel. Okay first off, Ankara is a really expensive place to stay for tourists. For myself, I stayed at the first level at an area just behind the reception area. The room was super small.
With just a single double decked bed in it. I had to use the common bath area to bath and to relieve myself. But at 50 lira for a single room, it was okay. There's no amenities in this hotel, but the people here were relatively pleasant. Although they do not speak much english, they helped me with finding a place to park just outside the hotel.
Overall, do not expect too much from this dull looking place, but a cheap and affordable lodging. Do not go there. Suna Hotel is situated in Ulus, a ten minute walk away of the next metro station Ulus Metro and in walking distance of the Museum of Anatolian Civilization and the historic citadelle. The neighbourhood offers various nice lokantas and hosts a very nice market with vegetables, fish, fruits, clothes, cooking stuff etc.
But the neighbourhood has a general reputation as being not the safest place in Ankara. Indeed at nights there are not many people in the streets and most of them are men, so travelling as a woman alone or in a group with only women you might want to stay in another neighbourhood. We stayed with 4 people in a 4 bed room which was small but had everything you needed in it beds, lamps, a cupboard, night tables, towels, etc. The furniture in general and the beds were a little old and used but everything was very clean.
A nice and new carpet is doing a good job in providing a nice atmosphere. The heaters were working very well and the room had two windows with a view on some backyard. The Hotel staff was generally very nice and helpful. In general the Hotel seems to be a safe place and you get good value for little money.
