The Birch Park Townhouses have been the scene of a few shootings over the past couple of years. In fact, a year ago this week there was a deadly shooting there. Because of the violence, a letter was sent to the owner of the complex. The apartment complex is located in the Southeast part of Saginaw.
This was the scene last November after a man was shot and killed there. When you visit the complex now, you see security on foot and on the road. This comes after Great State Collaborative, a Saginaw County non-profit agency, wrote a letter to Amurcon Corporation, the company that owns the low-income housing unit, to complain about the violence.
Their parents are scared, they are very afraid. Two year olds should not be able to identify what gunfire sounds like," Johnson said. That means if I'm going to commit to it, we've got to commit fully to it," Ball said. Ball says that means more than having unarmed security guards on site. When they are coming, they can call, let security know. Jones says since the security was put in place two weeks ago, Birch Park seems like a different place to live. It's just like how Birch Park should have been, quiet.
