Her birthday was two days later. Jasmine Campbell, now 20, was expected to be released Tuesday from custody pending a trial on three felonies including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking. A trial is set for April in U. District Court in Norfolk. Advertisement Court documents reveal little about Campbell's case. Last month, however, an apparent co-defendant pleaded guilty to a similar charge in U. District Court.
Documents in the case of Devon Jay Caldwell, 26, reference a co-conspirator with the initials "J. According to the documents in Caldwell's case, he worked with at least three people between September and August to pimp women out of area hotels. Sometimes, the women had sex with clients at other locations. The documents said men paid to have sex with one of the women in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News and elsewhere.
Caldwell ordered the women who were having sex with the clients to call him "dad," documents said. He also referred to the sexual liaisons as "plucks. Appointments ranged from minute "quick visits" to one or two sessions. Caldwell provided the women with food, clothing and drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. He would often give the women drugs before and afterward — as a reward. The drugs also were meant to keep the women up into the early hours of the morning.
