This article focusses on three questions: 1 How can human trafficking be measured? We apply the Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes structural equation model to measure human trafficking inflows in a way which includes all potential causes and indicators in one estimation model. The human trafficking measurement focusses on international human trafficking.
We use freely available existing data and thus generate an objective measure of the extent of trafficking. Countries are ranked according to their potential to be a destination country based on various characteristics of the trafficking process. Because religion is often deeply embedded into society, studying how human trafficking and religion are woven together in anti-trafficking work is essential.
This critical review will analyze two articles centered on the trafficking-religion nexus but in different ways. The first one, by Choi-Fitzpatrick , explores how Christians develop mental frameworks around trafficking, its causes, and its perceived solutions.
Both Choi-Fitzpatrick and Potrafke offer in-depth, analytical, and relevant research on the religion and human trafficking nexus in policy and framework development, a topic not extensively covered in the literature. This study aims to identify robust push and pull factors of human trafficking. I test for the robustness of 70 push and 63 pull factors suggested in the literature. In doing so, I employ an extreme bound analysis, running more than two million regressions with all possible combinations of variables for up to countries during the period of β My results show that crime prevalence robustly explains human trafficking both in destination and origin countries.
