It's one of the sketchier areas too, especially down near Cesar Chavez, and up to maybe 22nd street that area is also the heart of Norteno gang territory, and there are some housing projects nearby too. You'd need some thick skin at times, but I wouldn't worry much if you have any kind of street smarts, and if you don't hang out with drug dealers or gangbangers.
Budget will work, She wants to live in area that with, common sense, is ok but still offers some "edge" She has always been able to get in with smart, common sense, legal eagle types. I think she will be fine in this area. We are happy that she wants to branch out and explore some. No need to stay in same regional area and never see other areas, people. I currently live at 16th and Guerrero Street. It is pretty safe so as long as she is alert at all time especially in this area at night. Florida street is closer to Potrero Hill if she is on the Bus line 9 San Bruno its pretty cool to ride. Although, if she is ridding the bus at night just tell her to sit in the front of the bus or in the middle lanes.
As always the less desirables and unrespectable people sit in the back. All the clubs and great restaurants are on 16th through 20th st. The mission is alot of fun. There are great shopping places and art galleries on 24th street and Mission and 24th St. Welcome to San Pancho. I forward her all of your good info.!
