That's what happens when you start hanging out with princesses, they'll want to give you a makeover. I'm not seeing the problem. And why is making a role model prettier a bad thing? Do they not want little girls to want to look pretty?
Now, I know this is the internet and anyone can say anything about anybody. But over fifteen years ago, I met a young girl member of my best friend's family who is now in her late 20s, a talented woman, and is a product artist she designs merchandise, etc who actually works for Disney.
And she posted this on FB recently in a post about this very subject. The Merida depicted was just one artist's painting for one line of merchandise that will be replaced in a year. Varied designs on Disney merchandise does not mean Merida has been re-imagined for all time.
