Haifa often gets omitted from itineraries, and it's too bad, because this city is so beautiful. For the best view of the port, go to the Central Carmel at the top of the mountain and walk along Panorama Street Yefe Nof. Plenty of gardens, zoos, and shopping areas offer picturesque areas for strolling and relaxing. The broad area of the port may be worth visiting -- it used to be a business center and became really run down over the years. Several years ago it was renewed and is now a nice area to walk in.
The port itself is quite uninteresting, however. Worth a visit. Not pretty. Port areas usually are not. But full of character and some old buildings to see. The port area used to be a bustling center of street stalls, bars and prostitutes.
It's been cleaned up in an effort to make it yuppie friendly, but no one seems to have bought into the gentrification. Looks like an empty movie set now. If you cast your eye up the mediterrean coast of Israel,you will notice a half circle bay close to the northern border. The exiting thing about this lovely city is that Arabs and Israelis live to-gether in peace. People who feel afraid of security at the port can remind themselves that this is for their protection from any incoming hostile force.
I wanted to mention that there is an artist's colony Ein Hod,where any artist can go and assist resident artists in their work. What a way to learn! The list of attractions is very long and mentioned in these many reviews. It is definitely a not to be missed place. Just wonderful! I have been to Haifa twice. It is my favorite city to visit. The people are amazing and friendly. There is so much to learn and see. Amazing overlook to see the ocean. Great food and drinks. If your looking to party and have a great time well Haifa is for you.
