I stood in awe, knowing I was in a special place I started snapping away. Now I prefer to shoot landscapes when clouds are out and about, As luck would have it, on that day hardly a cloud hung in the sky. Several great moments that would've never materialized for me had I not had such a love for photography, this photo is one of them.
Looking back my dad is the reason I love photography, by chance, this photo was taken on a trip to see him. I was talking with my dad about revisiting old pictures from trips we've taken and posting them while we are all social distancing. This picture brings back some amazing memories.
I had just gotten divorced and my folks invited me along for a road trip they were taking to Alaska. Alaska was one of the top things to do on my bucket list so, of course, I said YES!
This stop was really amazing to me. I never thought that I would be able to walk on a glacier. This glacier is on privately held land and the owners charge to visit here. While we were here a whole bus load of Asian tourists joined the experience with us. I was able to stand on the edge of the glacier and you can feel it move.
It was an experience that was very unique. Another fun fact about this picture is that it was taken with my first digital camera, a Nikon D The D50's did pretty well with landscapes and this one cleaned up really well with the better software I have for processing now. I wish I would've had the D I have now. Standing in the entrance of the empty wooden room, with my back to the open door, looking at my long shadow stretching across the wooden floor, I could almost hear the sound of that song echoing back and forth on the cold walls of the house.
