Einige Dinge muss man hier aber beachten was nicht gerade erleichtert die Umsetzung des Motivs. Und das Wetter muss ja auch passen. Am For a couple of years, the Rhine Falls located in Neuhausen and not in Schaffhausen had been in the top of my bucket list.
Unfortunately, a few obstacles have to be taken into account if one seeks to take a picture there. First of all, the viaduct becomes sunshine from the appropriate site only during the longest days each year. Second, Kiss and Desiro Double Deck trainsets are operated only on the weekends, while from Monday to Friday, the line is served by the older and according to my opinion, ugly Re series. Thus, a visit is worth only on 3 or 4 weekends each year. However, exactly this period of the year is one of my busiest as the final exams at the university where I am a lecturer, are also scheduled in this period.
On 11 June , however, finally, I managed to take this picture. A Kiss trainset is passing the bridge behind the falls with a service to Schaffhausen. We decided the day before the test that we'd take the long way from New Castle to Glenwood via Greenville, PA and do some studying in the car near the Bessemer locomotive shop and yard complex. We'd made numerous jaunts over to Greenville and had never seen a train move, so we figured this Sunday would be no different, but at least it was a good place to hang out and get some studying done.
As soon as we showed up, a crew climbed aboard a set of power and went to work gathering up a long cut of brand new BNSF covered hoppers interchanged from Conrail's Meadville Line, as well as some miscellaneous local traffic. We looked at each other and Tom said, "Uh oh.
I don't think we're getting much studying done We wound up chasing the train all the way to Butler, but the above shot from KY Interlocking at Kremis was the most memorable. The train was just getting under way from Shenango Interlocking at the south end of Greenville, climbing the grade in run 8, with sanders open, and not a turbocharged EMD to be found. I remember remarking to Tom after the train passed that it sounded like the world was coming to an end!
