Jiali Deng worked at the salon and faces unlawful massage and prostitution charges. Online records show she does have a massage license to practice in the Commonwealth and is from Flushing, New York.
Most of the businesses around the Taiji Massage Spa were closed when Henrico officers showed workers a search warrant. By the end of the night, Deng, 41, was in jail facing prostitution related charges.
A search warrant was still visible on the front desk Wednesday morning A woman who wouldn't give her name said she works with Deng, who had been there for two weeks. She communicated using a language translator app, because she said she does not speak English well. She also said she didn't know if anything illegal was happening at the spa. The spa is advertised on websites like RubMap. There's also an ad on Backpage.
She says her co workers noticed strange things at the spa. She says she thinks this crime is isolated. She said it's not going to stop her from shopping here.
