The is never an ideal time to tell our children about these things, but during a family holiday is not the greatest time. My children are not sheltered, but they are still children and that may be a bit too much for them to be subject too.
Most kids are unlikely to actually notice anything unless they are astute enough to understand what they are seeing. Good to know that the hotel are trying to do something about it. Must be difficult as Im sure the resort dont constantly want the police around. We have travelled to Cuba 6 or 7 times now, Santa Clara 2 , Hoguin 2 and Cayo Coco 3 and have never had anything stolen.
As most suggest when things go missing it is usually a guest. The cubans are very protective of their jobs at the resorts and would never think of taking anything unless they thought it to be a form of tip, usually left on the bed.
We have walked the beaches in all of these resorts but made sure to leave valuables covered in beach bags. Some of the beaches in Santa Clara at the former Occidental are very long and almost totally private. We have never had a problem. Other beaches at Hoguin and Cayo Coco have been quite busy and our belongings and towels have remained safe. The only incident of theft that I was made aware of was in Brisas Guardalavaca and it was a British lady tourist who was responsible.
We are looking forward to booking a trip at the end of March to the Brisas and certainly are not worried about theft at this resort. Took my family to Blau last March. There was a group of male tourists that were from some country where neither English nor French was the primary language and they were always in the 'company' of much younger Cuban ladies. These ladies were young enough to be their daughters, or perhaps granddaughters so I thought how nice, these nice old gentlemen have taken their families on a nice vacation.
