The next morning we ended up at a thermal spa in the mountains north of Zagreb. Upon arrival it looked liked a typical mountain holiday resort with quite a few outdoor pools and water slides. The spa zone and sauna world consisted of a multitude of saunas and steam rooms, relax rooms, water beds an outdoor sunbathing area and hot tubs and plunge pools. Now I am all for relaxing so I have to say I was pretty much looking forward to this β I was impressed that my best man had actually thought to pamper me rather than tie me to a lamppost naked or take me to a strip club which is how so many other many stag dos turn out.
However I got quite a shock upon entering the first sauna room! The room was rather thin and long and the walkway between benches either side was only as wide as the entrance doorway. I pulled the door, stepped inside and was quite surprised by my first sightβ¦β¦lots of naked men with legs spread wide. In this situation I did wonder what to do but I strolled to the back of the sauna and decided to embrace it all! I spent the next three hours naked and sauna and steam room hopping β I even jumped in the ice cold plunge pool which let me tell you is not conducive to helping a man look good down below.
I also spent some time on the roof terrace and sunbathed naked for the first time ever. The sauna that actually most impressed me was the salt one. You rub this coarse salt over your body before sitting down in a dark hot sauna whilst continually rubbing the salt into your skin. I loved it. Croatia is a very pretty country, with spectacular landscapes and spectacular cities and villages, and a coast where you always find, at a walking distance, beaches where you can sunbath without swimsuit.
