From the People series , The exhibition brings together over works photos and videos and documents which offer a retrospective tour of the various sections that make up this display, ordered chronologically and thematically.
Memento II , from the Memento Mori series, Her photography projects often involve a transgression of the rules imposed by the military regime of that period, daring to work in environments where women were not welcome. Her pictures reveal to us spaces and environments dominated by marginalization and sit-in protests. The intrepid vision of this artist stands out as it reveals to us the more hidden aspects of everyday life in Chile.
Going onto the streets with a camera could undoubtedly pose a risk for those wishing to capture reality for posterity, and also a threat to those imposing martial law. It was even less common in those days to see a woman going out to take photographs. The common thread in this section is time and how the pictures process it.
Years later she made a video β Un cierto tiempo A Certain Time , β with this valued photographic material, highlighting the idea of continuity and visual rhythm. The bold attitude of the photographer led her to delve deeper into a taboo issue, namely the uninhibited nudity of several elderly people β Cuerpos Bodies series β and the enjoyment of leisure time β Tango series.
Rounding off this Memento Mori series is a group of pictures taken in a cemetery in Santiago, where the author focuses on the photographs and other decorative items placed on graves by family members in order to evoke the memory of the deceased. The deprivation of free movement in a country downtrodden by the dictatorship from to led the photographer on a quest to discover the reasons why certain people ended up in prison.
