By day, it's a so-so, nothing special bar off Copacabana beach, by night it transforms into one of the biggest hooker hangout joints I've ever seen. You've been warned Stick to the mixed drinks or beer. If you try to order something like a whiskey coke, they'll charge you for a soda and a whiskey and the soda costs more than the liquor.
Packed with tourists and hookers, not excluding some transvestite just out the door. Given the scene, this is not a family place at dinner. Food is average. We stopped by Mab's for brunch on New Years Eve morning as it appeared to be the only place open. Having read the previous reviews, we were a little skeptical of what to expect.
The omelets that we ordered were surprisingly good, especially the shrimp topping. The cappuccinos were obviously made from a packet and were poor quality, but it was a small niggle. Service was slow and not particularly friendly, but not sure I would like to be working on New Years Day either. I just came back from a holiday in Rio De Janeiro. I went to Mabs bar a fee times and found it to be really friendly and clean place with good staff. It's in an excellent location and perfect to relax in any time of the day.
I have nothing negative to say at all. Well recommended. We recently attended a Conference in Rio and were staying in a really amazing hotel on Copacabana Beach. Mabs Restaurant is just across the road and hence we explored it the following night. I am not sure that the term Restaurant can be applied here - it is more like a Bar.
Furthermore, it does have a number of rather interesting patrons - majority scantily-clad. One gets the firm impression that you have entered the Red Light District on arrival at Mabs.
