Welcome back dear friends. It is time for the second instalment of the most in your face, full frontal offerings of the Mackie Blog- Think Tank. This is confronting two massive elephants in the world we currently live in, namely the rise of populism and the apparent rise of Islamic Terror.
Fuck you Terry! After recent events such as Brexit, Trump sweeping to power and the second terror related attack in the last few months in the UK it really does feel as if we are living in a Hollywood Movie akin to The Day After Tomorrow or great prediction for the end of the world that was guys! Yet, as all this weird and wonderful events come out I take a step back and think. What the actual fuck is going on? Is the world genuinely such a polarised place whereby the UK can have the lowest level of unemployment in decades, yet we vote for economic suicide in leaving the EU?
This got Think Tank thinking⦠a dangerous notion I know, but one you fuckers are coming along with for the ride if you have read this far. My belief is that we have quintessentially seen in the last ten years a paradigm shift in politics and culture around the world. Those that have the equivalent of A Levels and a University Degree compared to those that either have no qualifications or limited exposure to further education.
A key illustration of this is the Brexit vote. Unlike conventional politics, whereby the working class over whelming voted for Labour and the Middle Class overwhelmingly voted for the Conservatives.
It has been like that for generations. But no more. Yet, when you delve deeper into those stats and backgrounds you notice that that divide is even more prominent when you look at education. The graph below is a YouGov poll which has come to light in the last few months. The graph takes a look at local areas of the UK and cross references the percentage of graduates against the percentage of the vote to leave or remain.
