After a truly fantastic time in Italy it was off on a impromptu trip to Amsterdam and Brussels. I knew from previous research that flights form Brussels to Spain were cheaper and so I figured I would just train down there and fly home for a fraction of the price, and that is what I did. Main train station in Amsterdam impressive, huh! I was treated like a queen for a few days and revelled in the glory of it all. Snowy rooftops from the apartment of my friends in Utrecht.
The first day I got into Amsterdam early, put my bag into storage, and did a walking tour in the snow and freezing cold. It was kind of like Venice but with ladies in windows, marijuana cafes and bikes everywhere. We tried cheese and wine, discussed the number of bikes in the bottom of the canals once a year the dredge them up as most people use it as a disposal system because getting rid of hard rubbish is super expensive or something.
You would think the government might save money on dredging up thousands of bikes by just improving the waste removal service, but I withhold that judgement. Bikes as far as the eye can see β more than people actually. That afternoon I headed to Utrecht where Kathleen met me at the station and we rented me a bike. So there I was, riding a bike with a 15 kilo bag on my back looking exceedingly ridiculous in the slippery, slidey snow.
The next day I headed into Amsterdam later in the day. I stopped at the Anne Frank museum and took a night walk along the canal. There was supposed to be a light show along it but from what I saw it was mingy at best.
By the time 8pm rolled around I had been heavily snowed on for hours and had circuited the whole city my feet were finally freezing and the red-light district tour was about to start. I shook the snow off again and some of it got down the back of my neck again long hair might have been handy there and prepared to hear about a lot of sex industry related things. Just condoms at the Condomery, pretty sure the animal themed ones are display only, if you get my meaning.
