So, I ran into a bit of a pickle with the Antwerp red light district on Google maps. The location is called "Red Light District Schipperskwartier", and being from Antwerp myself, I know for a fact that it is a window-prostitution district.
The problem is that this location in Google maps is labeled as "children's museum", and that I cannot seem to find an appropriate category to replace this with. Apparently "red light districts", "prostitution zones" or "brothels" do not exist according to Google maps. Go to solution. The reason is quite simple: Google does not allow businesses that are not legal in a country to be mapped.
And in Belgium, although nobody will be arrested for either offering or consuming these kind of services, prostitution is not legal. With regard to this particular Maps entry: it seems someone added a POI to represent the entire red light district, which is also not a proper use of adding places on Maps a POI is 1 individual place, not an area , and in this case with a completely inappropriate category in countries where prostitution is legal the category "Adult entertainment club" might be used in these cases, although the 'club' part is not really fitting most of the times.
View solution in original post. Local guides can add or edit only the Points of interests and not bigger map elements like villages, cities, regions, geographical features etc. However, one can suggest modifications through the send feedback option and expect the changes to appear. If nothing happens over a prolonged period and if the erroneous information is putting everybody in trouble, you can provide the details here on Connect and tag a moderator to expedite the changes.
Further, if the POI mentioned by you is editable but you can't find a suitable category, you have to make a suggestion in the Idea Exchange for a new classification. I did not notice that before. I am living at the street next to Schipperskwartier. I have noticed that while the POI is still visible on my map, there is no info nor any pictures associated with it any more.
