The city of Sihanouk is an oxymoron. A mix of calm, beautiful beaches… Coupled with small quaint bars and restaurants, the effervescent Cambodians selling everything they have including themselves and a heat of unimaginable ferocity.
What most people will see however, is a toxic pool of clubs, drink, drugs and fat, middle aged, Eastern European men with teenage Cambodian girlfriends.
We, however, are on the cusp. Sally and I enjoy our own company and quiet and quaint places… But also love to people watch and have a beer overlooking a nice sunset on the beach, so we can bare or even enjoy aspects of the backpacker side to this oxymoronic place. We are enjoying it.. Everything else is in local Riel. Yeah we know!! The water is warm and free of any major natural pest wanting to sting, bite or swallow you.
The food is varied, tasty, nutritious and cheap. The people are again, lovely. So there was no end of quality people watching on hand! On a side note, we received an email from our hotel manager in Siem Reap… His email in pigeon English sums up what impact we have both had on each other. Take a look;.
