The development left many motorists and passengers unaccounted for just as their belongings were carted away by the kidnappers in the incident which happened a few kilometres to Katari village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Police advised commuters to keep off the Elele to Umudioga, Egbeda, Ubima and Omoku roads after hrs in order to avoid highway criminals. We are supporting the police in their investigation of the incident. We cannot make further comments at this time. In a related development, unidentified gunmen terrorising Ahoada, Ikwere and Emohua local councils of Rivers State shot dead a driver before abducting 30 passengers of a commercial bus along the Emohua axis of the East-West road. Assuring that they were on the trail of the attackers, the Police said that the driver of the bus was shot dead after he denied the kidnappers access into the vehicle by allegedly pressing the lock button.
Details of the Monday mayhem along the strategic Kaduna-Abuja road shows that hundreds of motorists travelling from Kaduna to Abuja as well as those going the other way found themselves stranded for about an hour as both lanes of the expressway were blocked by cars, hastily abandoned by their owners. Sources said that armed bandits left the scene of the incident and moved into the bush with some of their victims before the arrival of some security men, who later cleared the road for the motorists to continue on their journeys.
Series of attacks have been carried out along the Kaduna-Abuja route in recent months, forcing travellers to abandon the route for the safer rail journey. The abduction of about 30 travellers in early April instigated a public outcry which saw many Nigerians charge security operatives to put an end to the menace.
The Police, in response, stormed the bushes along the highway in a bid to fish out the perpetrators. In separate press releases, the Police claimed that a good number of the abductors were killed by security operatives during exchange of gunfire. Nous Contacter. Newsletter, Alertes.
